Differentiating 3D
and holographic TV

So what is the difference between 3d and a hologram? “Holographic TV is more of a 360-degree environment from any angle, while stereo 3d is more of a focus plane with elements in depth – either in front of or behind,” said Michael Phillips, market solutions manager for Avid (Booth SU902). Avid has been experimenting with the technology in post-production and has received many requests from content creators working on features films in 3d.

Holographic technology is different because, as goshen explains, it is “capturing an image from very many ‘eyepoints’ not for the purpose of creating a stereographic view, but for the purpose of being able to compose the image from any point in space.” ●
